Fat Freezing
What is cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis, commonly referred to as fat freezing, is a nonsurgical fat reduction procedure that uses cold temperature to reduce fat deposits in certain areas of the body by up to 25%. The procedure is designed to reduce localized fat deposits or bulges that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is not intended for people with obesity.
What areas of the body are best suited for cryolipolysis?
The FDA has approved cryolipolysis to treat fat deposits beneath the chin, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, abdomen, hip/flank (“love handles”), upper back (“brassiere rolls”), lower back, and underneath the buttocks. Any pinchable fat is freezeable fat.
How is cryolipolysis performed?
The size and shape of the fatty deposit is assessed and the area to be treated is outlined with a skin-marking pencil. Patients are awake during the procedure.
A handheld device called an applicator is used to freeze the layer of fat cells (adipocytes) underneath the skin. First, a gel pad is applied to the area to protect the skin. Next, the fatty bulge is suctioned or vacuumed into the applicator’s hallow opening. You will feel a tugging or pulling sensation as suction is applied. These sensations, intense cold plus other possible sensations – tingling, stinging, aching, cramping – lessen after 5 to 10 minutes as the area becomes numb during the cooling down process. The fat layer is gradually cooled to the target temperature of between 0 to -5 degrees celsius. It takes 30-45 minute so treat an area. After the area is treated, the applicator is removed. The area will be massaged for 2 to 3 minutes to assist with the breakdown of the fat cells and to bring heat back into the area.
How are fat cells destroyed?
The technique is based on the finding that fat cells are more susceptible to damage from cold temperatures than other cells, such as skin cells. The cold temperature injures the fat cells. The injury triggers an inflammatory response by the body, which results in the death of the fat cells.
How much localized fat can one expect to lose from cryolipolysis and when will I start to notice results?
Studies have shown an average fat reduction of between 15 and 28 percent at around 4 months after initial treatment. However, you may begin to notice changes as early as 3 weeks after treatment. Dramatic improvement is noticed after about 2 months.
What are the advantages of cryolipolysis?
There are many advantages to cryolipolysis:
No surgical incision is required.
It is a low risk procedure. There is no risk of infection.
The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.
Patients do not need to be sedated or anesthetized before undergoing the procedure.
More than one area of the body may be treated in a single session.
Most people can resume their normal daily activities immediately after treatment.
The procedure can be performed on people of all ages.
There is no damage to nerve fibers, blood vessels, muscles, or lasting damaging to skin in the treatment area.
Fat cells that have been damaged or destroyed are permanently removed from the body.
Patients may experience an increase in self-esteem due to an improvement in their appearance.
What are the disadvantages of cryolipolysis?
Disadvantages of cryolipolysis include:
The procedure is recommended only for people who are in good general health with no neurologic or orthopaedic problems and who are looking for “spot” fat reduction in specific areas on the body. Cryolipolysis is not recommended for people who have obesity.
There is a risk that the skin surface may be irregular/not smooth after healing.
More than one session may be needed to achieve a person’s desired results.
If more than one treatment sessions is needed, the next session can’t be performed until 6 to 8 weeks after the first session. This is because it can take this long for damaged fat cells to be eliminated from the body.
Results are not evident immediately. Since fat cells are removed gradually from the body, it can take 3 to 6 months to achieve optimal results.
One rare side effect that may occur is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. In this rare condition, the size of fat cells increases after cryolipolysis and can only be removed with liposuction. Men and people of Hispanic ethnicity are more likely to experience it.
Weight gain is possible after undergoing cryolipolysis. Fat may be deposited in other areas of the body.
Are there any people for whom cryolipolysis is not recommended?
Cryolipolysis should not be performed on people with obesity. Also, it should not be performed on areas of skin that are cut or injured, contain severe varicose veins, dermatitis, or other skin lesions.
People who have abnormal cold sensitivity or cold intolerance are not suitable candidates. The procedure is not recommended for people who have the following conditions:
Raynaud’s phenomenon.
Cryoglobulinemia.
Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.
Cold urticaria.
Cold agglutinin disease.
Other conditions that pose a risk include
Pregnancy or breast-feeding
Nerve disorders, such as diabetes-related neuropathy
Inflammatory skin disorders
Skin conditions caused by immune system disorders, such as eczema or psoriasis
What side effects are to be expected immediately after cryolipolysis?
Temporary side effects for the areas that are treated may include:
Pain or aches
Stinging or tingling of the skin
Redness
Swelling
Skin discoloration or bruising
Skin sensitivity or numbness
Side effects may persist for a few days to a few weeks after treatment. Your doctor may recommend that you take an analgesic medication to relieve pain or other discomfort.
How many cryolipolysis treatment sessions are typically needed?
You may have only one problematic area that may require only one treatment session. You may have more than one problem area that may require treatment or may need more than one treatment in a specific area to achieve your desired goal. You will work with you to design a plan – and the number of treatment sessions – that will best meet your desired goals.

Laser Lipo
What is it?
Laser Lipo is a laser lipolysis procedure in which paddles are placed against the skin, and a cold red laser beam is emitted through the skin and into the fatty layer underneath. After the laser hits the fatty tissue beneath the skin, it induces the creation of pores into the fat cells, their content is released and removed by the body’s own lymphatic system. Surrounding tissues such as blood vessels, nerves and skin cells are unaffected by the procedure.
After a single 30 minute Laser Lipo session, patients typically see instant fat reduction. Most patients describe the laser treatment as a warm feeling with no pain, bruising or down-time. 6-8 sessions is recommended, but number of sessions may vary based on body type, weight, and target fat-loss goals to achieve maximum results
Benefits of Laser Lipo
Lose inches around each treatment site of the body.
Shown to tighten skin, rather than leaving skin loose around the treated area.
Also shown to help diminish stretch marks.
Often results in healthier, smoother looking skin.
See instant results after each session.
What kind of results do you usually see?
Average loss is 3.7 inches around the treated area after 8 sessions, so if you did 8 sessions around the stomach you’d expect to see 3.7 inches off the stomach. You’ll see instant loss after one session, however 6-8 sessions are usually recommended for best results.
How long will the results last?
The results will last as long as you maintain them with healthy diet and exercise. You will see results without any changes to diet and exercise, however if you’re eating poorly and not exercising the fat can come back.
Recommendations for best results.
Pre-Treatment
No eating for two hours prior to treatment. A small amount of liquids (water, coffee, etc.) is ok. No cream, sugar, or fruit juices please.
Wear comfortable clothing. Also wear tight fitting underwear (panties, brief type), this is usually best for laser paddle placement.
No lotions or moisturizers near the area that you wish to be treated.
Be prepared to exercise within the next twelve hours to help the lymphatic system remove the free fatty acid cells from the body.
NO ALCOHOL 24 hours before, and 48 hours after each session. Alcohol slows down the body’s ability to filter out and expel the fatty acids from the fat cells.
Post-Treatment
Drink plenty of water, this helps the body clear out the expelled contents of the fat cells.
Exercise within 4-6 hours after the treatment. This increases the body’s circulation, and will also help expel the contents of the broken down fat cells. A minimum of a 20 minute walk is recommended for best results.
Avoid foods that are high in fat and/or sugar following each session. This will improve results.
NO ALCOHOL 24 hours before, and 48 hours after each session. Alcohol slows down the body’s ability to filter out and expel the fatty acids from the fat cells.
EMSculpt
How does EMSculpt work?
EMSCULPT is the first device to build muscle and sculpt your body. Through the high intensity electromagnetic therapy procedure one can enlarge current muscles, as well as grow new muscle fibers.
What sets Emsculpt apart from the pack is its duality: It not only implodes fat cells (for a 19 percent loss after four treatments), but simultaneously builds muscle fibers (by roughly 16 percent) for more defined abs and rounder rear-ends. One company-sponsored study even reported a 10 percent reduction in diastasis recti, the abdominal separation that occurs commonly in pregnancy.
EMSculpt is the first and only Health Canada approved technology designed to tone muscle mass, so you can have the leaner, firmer body you aren’t getting by going to the gym. Just one 30 minute treatment is like doing about 20,000 squats or sit-ups — without any exercise at all!
Benefits
EmSculpt is a brand new FDA and Health Canada approved energy device which is used for body contouring, shaping, and toning through a non invasive, non surgical treatment involving applicator paddles being placed against the skin on the treated area. EMSculpt can be used for abdominals, hamstrings, quads, buttocks, and even arms to build muscle and reduce noticeable fat. EMSculpt is a revolutionary treatment in which it utilizes high intensity electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) to heat fat cells to 110 degrees, which activates muscle contractions beyond what you can accomplish from a trip to the gym. When we are working out, we only activate up to 45% of the muscles, whereas with EmSculpt it activates 95% of muscles for optimal, natural and pain free results that typically last 6 months or longer for patients.
When exposed to supramaximal contractions, the muscle tissue is forced to adapt, and it responds with a deep remodeling of the inner structure that results in a highly effective metabolic reaction that builds muscle and burns fat. EMSculpt sessions typically take about 30 minutes per area being treated, with no downtime making it especially ideal for patients with a tight schedule.
Side Effects
Other than temporary muscle soreness, there are no known side effects of the EMSculpt treatment.
EMSculpt does produces extreme, real contractions, which means you will feel your muscles contract! But the biggest advantage EMSculpt has over conventional exercising is there’s really no risk of overdoing it. Similar to exercising, the body responds to the wear and tear the stimulation causes by rebuilding and repairing muscle tissue, resulting in stronger, firmer muscles. You’ll feel the same soreness after EMSculpt that you would after a strenuous workout.
The safest way to lose fat and build muscle tone is to go to the gym and eat healthier. However, if you’ve tried to work off that belly bulge but can’t seem to make a dent, EMSculpt may be an option worth exploring. EMSculpt results in the muscle tissue undergoing a cellular change, it causes them to become stronger, while any excess fat around them is reduced.
How often should I come?
EMSculpt typically for most patients requires 2-4 30 minute sessions generally spaced about 3 days apart in the span of a two week period with maintenance typically recommended every 4 to 6 months to maintain the desired appearance in the treated area.
With that being said, each patients unique anatomies and desired results are different, meaning our team will provide a full assessment to devise a treatment plan specifically catered to your exact needs, goals and the exact shape you want making the frequency of treatment also specific to you Treatment sessions for Emsculpt usually take around 30 minutes to complete but depending on the area and or areas being treated it may take more or less time. You want to treat your muscles in the same way you would after an intense workout at the gym (because that’s what it was!), by providing your body rest in between sessions.
Ultrasonic Cavitation & Radio Frequency
What is Ultrasound Cavitation and RF?
Ultrasonic Cavitation also known as Ultrasound Liposuction and Ultra Cavitation is a non-surgical fat removal procedure that uses scientifically proven non-invasive technology to break down unwanted fat whilst the radio frequency is a non-invasive heat treatment that helps tighten, contour and refine deeper lines of the skin over the face and body.
How does it work?
This treatment uses two types of technology-
Ultrasound -uses low-frequency sound waves to heat and vibrate the layer of fat cells below the skin’s surface causing pressure, which eventually causes the fat cells to liquify and release their contents to be eliminated safely by the body.
And
Radio Frequency Technology – uses advanced technology that safely heats the deep layers of the skin causing collagen fibres to contract and remodel leaving skin more lifted and tightened. (Radiofrequency can be used for both the face and body)
What areas can be treated?
Areas that can be treated include:
Abdomen
Hips
Love Handles/Flanks
Inner and Outer Thighs
Upper Arms/Bingo Wings
Bra and Backs Rolls
Buttocks
Chin
Face (RF only)
Does it hurt?
Most patient’s find the treatment to be very comfortable and trouble-free. Some clients experience warmth during the treatment and a small amount of noise discomfort, but there is no pain.
How long is the treatment?
Each session is around 40 minutes. Treating multiple areas is not advisable as the body has to work hard to remove the excess fat that is now passing through the Lymphatic system to the liver. Follow the rule, of one area, one treatment every 72 hours and you will see rapid results.
When will I see results?
Patients can expect to experience a reduction of several cm in circumference after the first treatment following Cavitation. Following RF some results will be seen immediately post treatment however the subsequent repair and remodelling of this deep collagen produces continuing effects over the next 3- 6 months.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of sessions depends on a patient’s age and skin condition. While you will see immediate results in the first session, it maybe necessary to have between 3 and 12 sessions for optimum results. Patients who go through a series of treatments will see an improvement each time the treatment is performed.
How long do results last?
To maintain the results it is important to follow a healthy low calorie diet and exercise regularly. It is also important to drink 8 glasses of water a day before and after the treatment. Fat elimination is accelerated by the amount of water your drink therefore, water is key component to eliminating the fat.
Who is suitable for Ultrasound Cavitation and Radio Frequency skin treatments?
Unfortunately treatment isn’t suitable for everyone. Please check that your BMI falls in the treatable range and should be no more than 30. Significant obesity is outside the treatment range for the contouring and styling effects of ultrasonic liposuction. Also some medical conditions and drugs will make some patients unsuitable to benefit from treatments.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women
Persons showing skinfold lower than 2 cm
Infection or inflammation in the region where the procedure will be done
Individuals with a history of malignancies
People with a cardiac pacemaker or other metal implants
Persons with coagulation disorders or taking medication that affects blood clotting
Individuals with serious medical conditions like diabetes and osteoporosis
